I'm trying not to panic about the huge tasks I have before me. I feel like I'm fully stretched at the moment, and yet I haven't even started two major tasks - joining the gym and getting fit, and finishing THAT seven-minute animation! Work has been very stressful lately. I think I've come through the worst of it, and kept colleagues and clients happy (for the most part).
OK, in about two weeks I will go to the gym - once I've finished planting trees. Then I won't have to go out to dig holes and shovel mulch in the dark. I must say it's not as hard as I thought - the cats skip around and have great fun, and the outside spotlights mean that I can see spiders before I pick them up.
Then, in about three weeks, I will start working on
Black Mary in earnest. I think I'm clear about how I will finish this. I've discovered lots of good ideas recently in terms of style. I intend to vastly simplify the narrative, this will be a big help. I saw short animation sessions at MIFF - this reminded me that a simple work can be more effective (and easier to finish!).
I'm concerned that no-one cares about indigenous people anymore, or bushrangers. I think the media and public have been tricked into an obsession with terrorism, when our lives are at greater threat from many other social issues. Car crashes and cancer kill many more people!
However, I don't think I can manufacture a story about terrorism just for relevance's sake. I can show paranoia and distrust, which I think are part of the same issue. But I will have to stick to the story I believe in. Who knows what people will see in the story? I might as well be honest to what I want to do. For instance, the South Park creators didn't try to recreate Martin Scorsese films.
